Presbyopia

Presbyopia

Presbyopia is a natural part of aging where the eye gradually loses its ability to focus on close objects. Unlike conditions like myopia or hyperopia, presbyopia occurs because the lens inside the eye becomes less flexible with age, making it harder to focus on nearby objects. This is why many people in their 40s or older start noticing difficulty reading small print, using their phones, or doing other close-up tasks.

Symptoms of Presbyopia

  • Difficulty reading small text or doing close-up work (e.g., sewing)
  • The need to hold reading materials at arm’s length to see clearly

How is Presbyopia Treated?

At Prakash Eye Centre, we offer several treatment options for presbyopia, allowing you to regain comfortable, clear vision for everyday activities:

  • Reading Glasses: The simplest solution for presbyopia, reading glasses are designed to help you see close-up tasks clearly. These can be purchased over-the-counter or custom-made based on your eye exam.
  • Bifocal or Multifocal Lenses: For those who already wear glasses or contact lenses for other vision issues, bifocal or multifocal lenses combine different prescriptions to allow for both near and distance vision correction.
  • Contact Lenses: Multifocal contact lenses can help correct presbyopia while also addressing other vision issues you might have.
  • Surgical Options: Advanced surgical procedures like lens implants or refractive surgeries can offer a long-term solution for presbyopia, reducing or eliminating the need for glasses.
