Myopia, also known as nearsightedness, is a very common eye condition where you can see nearby objects clearly, but distant objects appear blurry. This happens because the shape of your eye causes light to focus in front of the retina, rather than directly on it. As a result, distant objects, like road signs or the board in a classroom, may seem fuzzy and hard to see.
Myopia typically starts in childhood and may worsen as you grow. It can be inherited, so if one or both of your parents are nearsighted, there’s a good chance you might be too. In today’s world, increased screen time and less outdoor activity have also been linked to the rising cases of myopia.
If you or your child experience these symptoms, it’s important to have an eye exam to determine if myopia is the cause.
